Our History
The first digital edition of the Kent Good Times Dispatch was published Oct. 12, 2023, by its nonprofit publisher, Kent News, Inc.
The publication is named for the town’s former longtime newspaper, which operated from 1952-2009.
The idea of bringing a newspaper back to Kent was born in the midst of the worldwide COVID pandemic, when both longtime residents and newcomers expressed a desire for a community news source.
In February 2023, Kent News, Inc. received its own 501(c)(3) designation, following several months of operating under a contract with a Fiscal Sponsor in order to provide donors with a tax deduction. At the end of KNI’s first fiscal year, it had raised over $30,000 in donations and grants.
The board consists of lifelong Kent residents, and new, full- and part-time residents, with decades of experience in journalism
