Hi, what are you looking for?

Kariny Amorim

Kariny Amorim is originally from Brazil and has made Kent her home away from home, noting it is a beautiful place to raise her young daughter. She has been impressed by the sense of community and the variety of activities and interests that our town has to offer.

Kariny has a master’s degree in micropaleontology and worked as a Curatorial Assistant at the American Museum of Natural History prior to joining the United Nations in 2010. Kariny has since been working for the UN in the field of finance, administration, and operations.

Her first job in the USA was as a teacher’s assistant in a “Family Literacy Center” program run by the Queens Library in New York. It was a valuable lesson in how community support can make a difference in people’s lives, something she sees mirrored in our mission to connect all residents of Kent via local news.

Among other interests, Kariny is passionate about scuba diving; she volunteered at the Wildlife Conservation Society (NY Aquarium) as a scientific diver for many years. She has also volunteered for other nonprofit organizations, such as the women’s shelter and meal programs affiliated with the Crossroads Community Services/New York Cares.
