Despite rain, spirit of Pumpkin Run participants unaffected

The 47th annual Kent Pumpkin Run was held Saturday on the Kent Green. The event, organized by the Kent Chamber of Commerce, featured a five-mile run that 206 participants walked and ran, many of them in costumes.

Prizes, hosted by Kent Green Shopping Center, were awarded for costumes worn on the run. The fastest time was achieved by William Sanders of Marlborough, who placed first overall in the men’s division, with a time of 25:45, followed by Nick Conway of Albany, N.Y., (27:59) and Keenan Ronayne of Kent (29:40).

In the women’s division, Karin Hempel of South Kent placed first, with a time of 30:33, followed by Anna Shields of Hartford (31:00) and Sybil Sanders of Marlborough (31:22). Cash prizes were awarded for the overall top three male and overall female, plus special prizes for second and third place male and female runners were presented in all age divisions.
