KENT, Conn.—Dr. Joseph Baxer, president of the United Nations Association of Connecticut, has announced that the United Nations Association scholarships are available for high school seniors.

The scholarship is designed to encourage and support students with a demonstrated interest in promoting world peace through work in international relations and diplomatic service, as well as to cultivate an understanding of and support for the work of the UN in the United States.

Awards of $1,000 to $3,000 are available to assist students with college expenses.

Applicants must be graduating seniors in Connecticut. The scholarship is based on demonstrated academic excellence; evidence of engagement in international issues; progress in developing proficiency in a foreign language; commitment to social advancement as documented through community service or related activities, and participation in a Model UN or similar intercultural program.

Northwest Connecticut applicants can contact the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation.

The United Nations Association of the United States of America is a not-for-profit nonpartisan organization that supports the work of the United Nations and encourages active civic participation in crucial social and economic issues facing the world today. Its vision is a world in which the scourge of war is eliminated, human rights are honored and the natural environment is protected.
