This year marks the 58th anniversary of the lighting of the trees. A highlight of the tree lighting will be a chance to visit with Santa.

Small Business Saturday, founded in 2010, is also Nov. 30. The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Over the years, many people have come from near and far to view the trees. Members of the New Milford United Methodist Men’s Club and other church members donate their time and talent to place the trees on the green, stringing the wires and the lights, and taking the trees down shortly after New Year’s.

The tradition of the trees on the green was started by Walter Schutte in 1967. Church members also remember the late Dave Kullgren, who passed in 2020. He played an active role in the club and the tree program.

Contributions for lights and other essentials to help keep this tradition alive are welcome.

Donations may be made to the New Milford United Methodist Men’s Club, 68 Danbury Road, New Milford, CT 06776.
