KENT, Conn. —Historical fiction will be the theme for the spring book discussion series moderated by Betty Krasne, writer, professor emerita and longtime Kent resident.

Books to be discussed are “Matrix” by Lauren Groff, “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell, “The Western Wind” by Samantha Harvey, and “Years of Wonders” by Geraldine Brooks.

The series, which is conducted via Zoom, is sponsored by the Kent Memorial Library.

The writers whose works will be examined use their imagination and writing skill to create long-ago worlds. Krasne and her participants will consider whether the works should be called fictitious and whether they should be seen as entertainment or history.

They will explore what roles the authors see their female protagonists playing in the worlds they imagine. “These are not the usual questions we bring to our book discussions,” Krasne said, “but they may be topics to consider as we focus on this category of work.”

KML book discussions are free and open to the public each month at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 20, March 20, April 17 and May 15. To register and reserve books call 860-927-3761 or email kla-bmcallister@biblio.org.
