SHARON—The Housatonic River Commission and Housatonic Valley Association are hosting an event Saturday, Sept. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m., the Housatonic Wild and Scenic River Celebration,  at Housatonic Meadows State Park.

Plans include a picnic to celebrate the recent designation of the Housatonic as a Partnership Wild and Scenic River. Those gathered will also discuss the importance of this achievement and acknowledge those working to protect the river and the region.

Partners also include the Housatonic Heritage Area, First Light, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the National Park Service, and the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The designation of the Housatonic River is from the Massachusetts-Connecticut border to Boardman Bridge in New Milford. More information on the local river section is available on the federal website.

Online registration is requested.
