PZC gives nod to Kent School building plan

KENT—The Planning and Zoning Commission approved an application from Kent School to alter its plan to build four faculty houses on its campus to the creation of a single three-family dwelling during its May meeting.

A special permit was needed because Kent’s zoning regulations do not allow triplexes in the rural residential zone. It was acknowledged, however, that the building will fit esthetically with the residential village on the campus.

Member Sarah Chase questioned what might happen if the school decided to sell the houses but was assured that if a sale were ever to be contemplated it would include the entire school.

“The special permit stays with the land,” said Land Use Administrator Tai Kern. “Everything still applies.”
