KENT—Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy (NCLC) will sponsor a number of events this spring, both in Kent and in the region at large.
From now through the end of April, NCLC will partner with the Sherman Library to offer strolls through the Mallory Preserve where families can read pages from Leslea Newman’s new children’s book, “Skunk’s Spring Surprise.”
It is a self-guided adventure that begins at Sherman’s IGA Plaza, 15 CT-39, and requires no reservations. The trailhead is near the Sherman Wine & Liquor store. The preserve is open from sunrise to sunset.
April 20, NCLC will participate in Woodbury’s Earth Day in Hollow Park, 43, Hollow Road, Woodbury, where Connecticut’s largest Earth Day event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
May 4 the action moves closer to Kent with a Bird Walk at Smyrski Farm, 237 Merryall Road in New Milford. Noted Audubon birder, Angela Dimmitt, will lead an early morning walk over the 220-acre farm from 7 to 9:30 a.m.
Participants should bring binoculars and wear long pants and boots. To register, email events@ctland.org.
NCLC will host an open house at its new office, 17 Old Barn Road in Kent, from 4 to 6 p.m. May 9.
It will round out the month by co-hosting a Meet your Greens happy hour with Candlewood Valley Regional Land Trust at the Housatonic Brewing Co., 30 Kent Road, New Milford on May 30, 5 to 7 p.m. The event provides an opportunity to make connections and exchange news about environmental issues, conservation initiatives and the like. Attendees buy their own drinks and light refreshments are provided.
Finally, on June 1, 10 a.m. to noon, a Connecticut Trails Day hike will be held through the woods and along the shores of Lake Lillinonah. Meet at 40A Obtuse Road North in Brookfield; register by emailing events@ctland.org.
