KENT, Conn.—The Honorable Maureen Anne Brady, of Kent, who dedicated her life to faith, family and public service in Connecticut’s Northwestern Corner for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, in Kent.

Also affectionately known as “Mogo,” she spent her lifetime caring and providing for her family, faithfully serving the Roman Catholic parishes in Sherman, Sharon, Cornwall Bridge and Kent, and served the town of Kent as its first woman First Selectman and as an elected official on several town boards and committees.
Born on Sept. 13, 1938, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Cray) Powers and was raised in Brooklyn and Belle Harbor, N.Y. On Aug. 13, 1960, she married Thomas Brady, who survives at home. In 1968, they moved their family to Kent, where Maureen continued her legacy of love and service.
From 1986 to 1992, Maureen served as the first selectman of the Town of Kent after having spent 14 years as administrative assistant to the first selectman and clerk to the Board of Selectman. Subsequently, she was an elected official to the Board of Finance and served as Assistant Registrar of Voters and secretary to the Republican Town Committee. Maureen served the Holy Trinity Church in Sherman, Conn., St. Bernard-St. Bridget Church in Sharon, Conn., and Cornwall Bridge, Conn., and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish (including Sacred Heart Church in Kent) as secretary for nearly 20 years.
Besides her husband, Maureen is survived by three children: two daughters, Kathleen Lindenmayer, and her husband, Martin, of Kent, and Maureen Goldman and her husband, Scott, of Sharon, Mass., and son, Kevin Brady and his wife, Darlene, of Kent; three sisters, Kathryn Gilligan of Bradenton, Fla.; Anne Hartnett, and her husband, Thomas, of Bradenton, Fla. and Barbara Lynch of Kent, and sister-in-law, Eeva Brady of Greenwich, Conn.
She was a loving grandmother and known as “Mogo” to seven grandchildren: Elise Lindenmayer and her husband, Carl Hanesstetter; Anna Lindenmayer, Lauren Brady, Benjamin Brady, Sydney Goldman, George Goldman, Juliana Goldman, and Max Hanesstetter, her great-grandson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews all over the United States.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Powers; sister-in-law, Vera Powers; and brothers-in-law, Edward Lynch, Jack Gilligan and Hugh and Paul Brady.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, in Kent.
Burial will take place in the spring at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Sharon, Conn., at the convenience of the family.
