Library announces Springfest activities

KENT—There will be plenty of activity Saturday, May 4, at the Kent Memorial Library as it joins in the Springfest celebration.

Free books have appeared in front of the book sale tables as the Kent Memorial Library gets ready for the annual book sale. A Book Sale Preview will be offered Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. as part of the Springfest activities May 4. The upcoming summer book sale officially begins May 25. Photo by Lynn Mellis Worthington

The celebrated summer book sale, which opens permanently Memorial Day weekend, will have a preview from noon to 6 p.m., allowing visitors to browse a table full of books.

At 11 a.m., animal control officer and author Lee Sohl returns to the library for her Puppy Storytime in the Junior Room, accompanied by her dogs. Children of all ages are welcome, but registration is appreciated by emailing or registering online. 

Also, at 11 a.m., Kent Tree Warden Bruce Bennett will present a special program, “Trees of Kent.” Bennet will explain the duties of a tree warden and why the position is important. The program is free and open to the public. Please register.

Frustrated by your Apple device? From noon until 2 p.m. one-on-one tech advise will be offered for iPad, iPhone or Macs, in the use of iCloud, iTunes, Apple ID, Siri, Apps – or anything else. Individualized instruction will be offered in 30-minute sessions for up to four or five registrants. Registration is required by calling 860-927-3761. Apple products only.

“May the Fourth be with You” at 2 p.m. when the library offers “Star Wars” activities for kids of all ages. There will be lightsaber making, trivia, crafts, and more in the Junior Room. Registration is appreciated by calling or emailing.

From 3 to 6 p.m. the library will offer refreshments during the Sip and Stroll. Kent Falls Brewing will be offering a free tasting.
