Josephine (Lombardi) Hennessey, 86, was active at senior center

KENT, Conn. — Josephine (Lombardi) Hennessey, beloved wife of James J. Hennessey, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at Regional Hospice in Danbury. She was the devoted husband of 64 years to James.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1938, in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of the late Ferdananto and Helen (Conti) Lombardi.

Josephine’s life was centered on her love of family and her faith. She was a constant at all family gatherings and special occasions.

She is described by loved ones as a fantastic cook. Her family will forever cherish her Italian cooking, especially her sauce and meatballs. 

She especially enjoyed knitting through her participation in the prayer shawl ministry at Sacred Heart.

Josephine had a wide range of hobbies and interests that enriched her life and those around her.She was active at Kent Senior Center and was a huge fan of UCONN women’s basketball.

She also had an ability to make anyone she came in contact with feel special. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Kim (and William) Hammer, Donna (and Patrick) Lacey, James G.(and Julie) Hennessey, and Lisa (and James) Deakin; seven grandchildren, Lindsey (and Adam) Ayala, Hillary (and David) McMullen, Ryan and Meghan Lacey, Zachary, Emma, and Madison Deakin; two great-grandchildren, Adrian and Robert; a sister, Johanna (and James) Byrne; and a brother, Richard Lombardi.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Sacred Heart Church, 17 Bridge St., Kent. Burial followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in New Milford.

The Brookfield Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Danbury Regional Hospice.
