KENT—The House of Books will hold its next Book Club session Wednesday, July 17, at 6 p.m. when participants will discuss “No Longer Human” by Osamu Dazai.

Portraying himself as a failure, the protagonist of Dazai’s book narrates a seemingly normal life even as he feels himself incapable of understanding human beings. His attempts to reconcile himself to the world around him beginning in early childhood, continuing through high school, where he becomes a “clown” to mask his alienation, and eventually leading to a failed suicide attempt as an adult. Without sentimentality, he records the casual cruelties of life and its fleeting moments of human connection and tenderness.

The House of Books is located at 10 North Main St.; 860-927-4104.
