Children of all ages enjoy the miniature Dickens Village, watching the model train traveling through a huge collection of buildings and a miniature World’s Fair with various amusement rides moving in all directions. There are also collections of Santas and nutcrackers on display.

Festivities begin Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 29, to Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continue the following weekend, Dec. 6 to 8. The show regularly attracts more than 1,000 visitors to the three-story historic building that dates back to 1843.

The third floor restored Ballroom is now open to the public and has exhibits on display, including period clothing and antique toys and dolls.

For those looking for special, one-of-a-kind gifts, there will be photography, fine artwork, pottery, dolls, woven wear, felted holiday crafts, jewelry, décor and ornaments available for purchase. Some of the area’s most talented artists take advantage of the shows offered at the hotel to sell their work and support the ongoing restoration of the historic building.

Fresh cut trees and wreaths from Meadowbrook Gardens of New Milford will also be on sale. A portion of all sales benefit the hotel. Shop local and support local artists, artisans and the Merwinsville Hotel.

Donations are welcome to help support this 100-percent volunteer organization. However, admission is free.

The Merwinsville Hotel is located at 1 Brown’s Forge Road in Gaylordsville, only 15 minutes from Kent, Sherman, New Milford and the Harlem Valley/Wingdale Railroad Station. For further information, call 860-350-4443 or visit www.merwinsvillehotel.org
