Admission is free, although donations are welcome for the event at 93 North Main St.

Participants are invited to bring an appetizer, dessert or festive dish to share.

Those who wish to attend should RSVP by calling 860-927-4587 or emailing info@kenthistoricalsociety.org.

Additionally, the historical society will hold its Holiday Shop and Open House Fridays, Dec. 13 and 20, 1 to 4 p.m. at Seven Hearths Museum, 4 Studio Hill Road.

Visitors are invited to stop by to view the museum and the works of eminent artist George Laurence Nelson, who lived and painted there from 1919 until his death in 1978.

The museum, which has a large collection of Nelson’s art, was recently gifted with two additional paintings, one of his wife, Helen, with poppies and the second, a portrait of a rabbi.

During its recent annual meeting, curator Marge Smith told the gathering that she had seen pictures of the image of Helen and wondered where it was.

“A woman called and said her husband had collected a picture by Nelson, but that he had died, and she wanted to donate it,” Smith related. “It was the missing ‘Helen with Poppies’ and we have been able to identify some of the objects in the painting with items in our collection.”

The holiday shop will feature unique gifts about Kent history, including the gift of a membership and holiday baskets.

Purchases help to support the arts, history and education in our community.

Membership gifts can also be purchased online.
