KENT—The Kent Historical Society is seeking volunteers to become docents at Seven Hearths Museum this summer and fall.

Kent Historical Society owns and maintains Seven Hearts, one of the oldest buildings in the community. It began its long career in the mid-18th century as a trading post and served later as tenant housing for farm workers. At the end of the 19th century, it became the home of distinguished society artist George Laurence Nelson, who bequeathed it to the historical society.
The docent program is intellectually stimulating and socially rewarding and includes lectures, readings, discussions and field trips on topics related to Seven Hearths.
KHS will begin docent training May 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. A second session will take place May 10, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will learn more about the history of the Kent art community, art history, American/Colonial history and local lore.
They will also be instructed in how to present lively and engaging tours that integrate visual language, creative thinking and history.
Docents do not need to be residents of the town. Complete a docent application here to apply or complete the form here.
