KENT, Conn.—A group of teens joined Project SAGE (formerly Women’s Support Services) for a hike at Skiff Mountain South. The event aimed to raise awareness and support for victims and survivors of teen dating violence, bringing together local organizations, schools and advocates for a day of outdoor activity, reflection and solidarity.

Participants took a three-mile hike through one of Kent Land Trust’s scenic trails, connecting with nature and one another. Following the hike, everyone gathered around a fire pit to toast marshmallows and engage in open discussion about the critical issue of teen dating violence, which according to the CDC affects as many as one in 10 high-school students. By combining outdoor exploration with candid conversation, the event encouraged young people to feel empowered, informed and supported.

“This hike was about more than just enjoying the beautiful trails,” said Linda Ciano, director of community engagement from Project SAGE. “It was about coming together as a community to address an issue that affects too many teens, and to remind them that help is available and that they are not alone.”

The event was made possible through collaboration with the Kent Land Trust, Project SAGE and Marvelwood School. Their collective efforts highlight the importance of uniting local resources to educate and engage young people in conversations about healthy relationships.

Project SAGE, formerly Women’s Support Services, is dedicated to creating a community free of domestic violence and abuse. Through education, advocacy and direct services, Project SAGE seeks to empowers individuals—especially youth—to recognize, address, and prevent relationship

violence.
