KENT—Craven Contemporary, 4 Fulling Lane, will continue its latest show, Alex Katz Men, through Jan. 28.
The show brings together a dozen male portraits by Alex Katz, including a complete White Shirt portfolio that is shown on the long gallery wall.
Katz, aged 96, works in New York City and Maine and is one of the most recognizable artists of our time. Katz has a distinctive approach to painting the human face—large scale, pared down and cropped. The works combine elements of realism and abstraction.
As Katz describes his work, “Part of what I’m about is seeing how I can paint the same thing differently instead of different things the same way.”
His work is included in more than100 public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of Modern Art, Smithsonian Institute, Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Gallery in London and more.
