Art film series kicks off with sixteen attendees

KENT, Conn.—Sixteen attendees came to the first screening of the Art Film Series sponsored by the Kent Art Association and the Kent Memorial LIbrary last Thursday.

“Kusama: Infinity,” which traces the story of Yayoi Kusama, an acclaimed contemporary artist often identified by her signature polka-dots, was shown at the library. Now 95 years-old, she lives in a mental health institute in Tokyo and works tirelessly at her nearby studio.

Many of the evening’s attendees knew little of Kusama’s life prior to the screening.

Although she pioneered art in 1960s New York City before returning to Japan, the art world forgot her work until decades later.

Event organizer Carla Shere initiated the series to share her love of art films. She stated, “Kusama’s life was fascinating,” adding that she is open to suggestions for future screenings.
