ARB seeks volunteer to fill vacancy

KENT—The Planning and Zoning Commission is seeking a volunteer to fill a vacant position on the Architectural Review Board. This member must be an architect, landscape architect or a planner who is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

It was announced at last week’s Planning and Zoning Commission that architect Peter Hanby resigned from the Architectural Review Board. The ARB approves the appearance of proposed projects before the Planning and Zoning gives final approval. The lack of a qualified member could prevent review of applications.

“Sometimes they [the ARB] don’t have anything, but then they can get a ton of stuff,” said Land Use Administrator Tai Kern. “We have no applications now, but if something rolls in, what will we do? It’s important to fill the position so we can go on.”

She said that regulations call for the “majority” of the board to be from Kent, but a qualified person could be seated from another town. The town can also use a consultant and the PZC members agreed to ask town planner Glenn Chalder if he would pinch hit while the search continues.

PZC chairman Wesley Wyrick said he had a candidate in mind but had yet to approach the individual.

Those who fulfill this requirement and are interested in volunteering, should contact the Land Use Office at landuseadmin@townofkentct.org or 860-927-4625. Meetings are conducted via Zoom and are rarely lengthy.
