KENT—The Kent Memorial Library and House of Books will host a program on “Connecticut Cryptids, A Field Guide to the Weird & Wonderful Creatures of the Nutmeg State,” April 30 at 6 p.m. The program will be presented by “Connecticut Cryptids” artist Valerie Ruby-Omen and author Patrick Scalisi.

A cryptid is a creature found in stories that some people believe exists or say they have seen, but that has never been proven to exist. Connecticut has no shortage of cryptid tales. Chances are good that you’ve heard about the Black Dog of the Hanging Hills in Meriden or the Winsted Wildman of Winchester and Barkhamsted. But these are only a few of the mythical creatures that call Connecticut home.
