Another reason to love living in Kent

To the Editor:

The other day I found my old book-light, but during its extended disappearance it seemed to have died of disuse, even after I tried reviving it with new batteries.

The next day I visited the hardware store to see if they would declare it officially dead.  Mary tried the batteries and said they were okay so it had to be the mechanism, and we agreed that the device had served its purpose.

The book-light went in the wastepaper basket and I went on with my errands.  Later, as I was heading to the IGA, I saw Mary running across the parking lot, Christmas hat blowing in the wind.  When we met up, she handed me the light and—a little short of breath—showed me that it had been revived.

One of the hardware guys had seen it in the waste basket, exhumed it, cleaned out the battery contact points, put batteries back in, and low-and-behold, there was light in the IGA parking lot….

Another reason to love living in Kent.
