Why do Biden’s achievements go unrecognized?

President Biden’s administration has achieved so much for the country, how is it that so many don’t acknowledge the enormous ways he has moved the nation forward?

Can there be too many good measures? To recap: Inflation Reduction Act, Chips and Science Act, PACT Act for veterans, historic job growth, historically low unemployment, American Rescue Plan (led to fastest jobs recovery in history). And: Took out leader of al Qaeda, expanded NATO alliance, confirmed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

This momentous list suggests the problem. There is so much good news, but most of it has nothing to do with our daily lives. So I have saved for last something closer to home because I can remember where I was in 2012 when I heard the news from Newtown. I was in the car and said to my spouse, “Now they’ll pass laws.”

Senator Chris Murphy has several worthy missions as one of the people representing us, but since 2012 he has maneuvered every way he can to get guns out of our everyday lives, out of the hands of young students like the one from Sandy Hook Elementary School who shot 26 students and teachers.

Finally, under President Biden’s leadership and Senator Murphy’s impetus, the Safer Communities Act of 2023 is the first federal gun control law in 30 years. It requires background checks for buyers under 21, closes the “boyfriend loophole” (disarming domestic abusers), supports state red flag laws (disarming people who are a threat to themselves or others), funds anti-violence prevention, cracks down on gun trafficking (first-ever federal law against trafficking), funds school violence prevention efforts (including for police).

If it was only this one measure the administration passed, we’d all be better off, but that’s only an everyday law compared to the rest of the Democrat’s agenda. Folks, we need to get behind this momentum and keep it going in the right direction.
