St. Andrew’s seeks players for bell choir

KENT—St. Andrew’s Church music director Susan Guse is seeking ringers to form a bell choir for its Easter service.

She explains that the church has a three-octave set of handbells ranging from the C below middle C to the C two octaves above middle C, for a total of 37 bells.

The bells were donated to the church in the late 1980s and, to the best of her knowledge, have not been played by a full bell choir.

Individual bells and small groups of bells have been used to accompany psalm singing and Christmas anthems sung by the choir.

Rehearsals will be offered on Sundays during March to prepare for Easter on March 31. The rehearsals will last 30 minutes and will be held following the 10:30 a.m. service during coffee hour (approximately 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.) at the 1 N. Main St. church.

Participants do not need to be experienced ringers, nor do they need to read music with great proficiency, although some knowledge of quarter notes and half notes is helpful.

Eight ringers are needed to put together an Easter offering.
