SHERMAN—The Sherman Library will open its next art show, “The Art of Fashion, 1990’s illustrations by Kermit Adler,” Feb. 23, with an opening program from 6 to 8 p.m. when Jeanne McRoberts will tell the tales behind the illustrations.

The show will continue through March 27 and can be viewed both at the library and online.

A former Lord & Taylor creative director, Adler created many illustrations for the Barn Shop ads in Kent, which Sherman resident McRoberts then owned. She hired him to create the illustrations.

Born in New York City, Adler (1927-2008) graduated from the High School of Music and Arts and then Parsons School of Design as well as attended Mexico’s Escuela de Bellas Artes.

He began his career at Lord & Taylor and also worked at Saks Fifth Avenue, and designed for NEW YORK CUE magazine.

Adler was also a watercolor painter, exhibiting in one-man and group shows.

The library, located at 1 Sherman Center, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
