SHARON–The Sharon Historical Society and Museum invites the public to a special presentation Friday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m.

The program will feature guest speakers Jeff Lynch, head gardener of Wethersfield Estates and Garden, and Hillary Henderson, chief operating officer.

They will discuss “The Preservation, Restoration and the Challenges of Climate Change at Wethersfield Garden.”

The Sharon Historical Society will hold a program Sept. 27 describing the creation of the elegant Wethersfield Estate and Garden in Amenia, N.Y. Photo contributed

The museum galleries will be open for viewing before and after the presentation.

Complimentary tickets to the Wethersfield Garden and Estates will be available to attendees.

The program is part of the current exhibition, “Creating an Oasis at Wethersfield: Mrs. Poehler and Mr. Stillman,” now on display at the museum.

The exhibition explores the relationship between Evelyn Poehler, a Sharon-based landscape architect, and Chauncey Stillman.

Stillman hired Poehler in the 1950s to create the beautiful gardens at Wethersfield, his home in Amenia, N.Y.

Throughout their decades-long collaboration, numerous correspondences were exchanged and the depth of these letters, drawings, and notations in the archives at Wethersfield Estate and Garden provide a treasure trove of information.

The exhibit immerses visitors in the garden and introduces them to an often-overlooked pioneering landscape architect from Sharon.

The Sharon Historical Society and Museum is located at 18 Main St.
