Young attendees will have the thrill of climbing into the driver’s seats and meeting their local heroes. This year’s event will benefit the New Milford Police K-9 Unit, funding the care and training of its new therapy dog.

Everyone will have the opportunity to meet the K9 unit’s celebrities including Ella a bloodhound, Rio, a German shorthaired pointer, both trackers, and Mattis, a labrador retriever, whose specialty is in narcotics detection.

New Milford Lt. Michael LaFond said the unit is awaiting the addition of a new K-9 member, officer wellness/community outreach dog that is currently in training. The dog, another lab, will be focused on “the internal officer’s well-being as well as acting as a community ambassador, visiting schools, hospitals, and senior centers.”

Additionally, there will be a Child Safety Seat Installations Clinic by certified child passenger seat technicians who will be on hand to make sure child safety seats are installed properly and being used correctly.
