CORNWALL—The annual Labor Day Weekend Benefit Art Sale returns to the Cornwall Library, at 30 Pine St, this year, marking the sixth anniversary of this popular benefit event. It opens with a cocktail reception at the library on Friday, Aug. 30, and continues through Monday, Sept. 2.

“Spring Greenhouse” by Marilyn Davis will be among the artwork offered for sale at the Labor Day weekend sale at the Cornwall Library. Photo contributed

Sale hours will be Friday, Aug. 30, 6 to 8 p.m. with the cocktail reception; Saturday, Aug. 31, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 1, 10 a.n. to 4 p.m. and Labor Day, Sept. 2, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The artwork will run the gamut from antique to contemporary, from jazzy and colorful to classic black and white, from realistic to abstract. The range of mediums includes prints, watercolors, posters, photographs and paintings with an occasional small three-dimensional piece. All work will be documented to the extent feasible and appropriately priced, starting at $25 and running up to the tens of thousands.

As works are purchased, new pieces will take their place, refreshing the show every day.

Each work in the sale represents a gift in support of the library’s collection of books and other media, and its programming serving the people of Cornwall and beyond—live and on Zoom—throughout the year. The Cornwall Library is a free library; its core book lending program is supplemented by educational events for children and adults, information services, art exhibitions, literary events and a broad range of other activities and community services.

The library depends on private contributions and grants to support its programs; all donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donations of art are welcome through mid-August and are tax-deductible. Contact the library at 860-672-6874 if willing to donate.
