Virginia Hurd (Warren) Smith died June 17, 2024, at the age of 95.

Virginia Smith, 95, died June 17, 2024.

She was born to Jack and Sally Warren Oct. 24, 1928, in New York City. Ginny lived in many places as a child with her sister, Judy—a favorite being the “Wooden Tent” in South Egremont, N.Y., before the family settled in Larchmont, N.Y. She attended Green Mountain College in Vermont and enjoyed a stint of being a career girl in New York City for Bellows & Co.

Married to Ward Smith in 1952, the couple raised five children, first in Radburn, N.J., and then in Weston and Kent. Always appreciators of fine arts and decorating, the couple ran the Pawling Art Center for many years in the 1970s. Divorced in 1976, Ginny began her career in real estate, which she would excel at for 35 years.

She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Church in Kent and ran the rummage sale at the church’s bazaar. She was an avid reader all her life. She had an incredible vocabulary and was always quick with a grammatical correction or saying that would sum up the situation perfectly.

She lived in New Milford for the last 35 years of her life.

She is survived by her children, Ward, Sally, Caroline, George and Judy, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 20, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Kent.

Ginny sold us our first and only house in Kent some 26 years ago. We will always remember her as bright, energetic and the eternal optimist. Our sincerest condolences to her loved ones,

    Bruce Hoheb and Susan Menconi
