KENT—Daniel Robin Clurman, who created “Our Mother Marsha,” will be present Friday, July 5, at Peggy Mercury, 9 Maple St., from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
In addition to original works on view, 13 color silkscreen prints will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Housing Works, the New York City based non-profit fighting the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness.
“Our Mother Marsha,” pays tribute to Marsha P. Johnson, the black trans-rights activist who played a major role for the LGBTQIA+ community and was one of the fiercest voices during the Stonewall protests.
“Marsha is like a family member who has passed on, but who still has a lot to teach us about pride and joy,” said Clurman. “When I’m drawing Marsha, I understand why her activism is so iconic and how her smile radiates joy and acceptance.”
Clurman will customize the screenprints and discuss how Marsha inspires his work during his July 5 visit.
