The events kick off this weekend with the annual picnic at Hadlow Preserve, 9 Cozier Hill Road in Sherman from noon to 2 p.m.

The event will feature an afternoon filled with a free lunch, games, kite flying and a leisurely hike.

RSVP is appreciated by emailing events@ctland.org.

In addition, a Climate-Smart Celebration will be held at Maple Bank Farm, 75 Good Hill Road, in Roxbury on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m.

During the afternoon, NCLC will celebrate Building Resiliency awardees and partners.

The Climate-Smart grant program provides farms across Northwest Connecticut with resources to enhance agricultural sustainability and productivity.

The action returns to Kent Friday, Oct. 4, when there will be another volunteer workday at Cobble Brook Vista Preserve, 26 Studio Hill Circle, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The focus will be on improving the parking lot, removing invasive species from the managed Prairie Warbler Habitat, and preparing bird nesting boxes for next year.

Pizza lunch will be provided.

RSVP is recommended by emailing volunteer@ctland.org.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., “Etuaptmumk: Two-Eyed Seeing” will be presented at the picnic pavilion at Macedonia State Park, 159 Macedonia Brook Road.

Darlene Kascak, of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, will introduce participants to how to see with one eye the strengths of Indigenous knowledge, and with the other eye the strengths of Western knowledge.

Kascak is the educational outreach ambassador for the Institute for American Indian Studies.

A Breakfast Bird Walk is planned for Friday, Oct.18, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Cobble Brook Vista Preserve, 26 Studio Hill Circle in Kent.

The guided walk through the preserve meadows offers participants a chance to glimpse the splendor of fall bird migration.

Bird walks are limited to 15 people.

RSVP is required by emailing events@ctland.org.

Finally, on Thursday, Oct. 24, there will be “Meet Your Greens” at the Woodbury Brewing Company, 738 Main St. South, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Co-hosted by nine conservation organizations, this informal gathering offers an opportunity to get to know others working or volunteering in the conservation field. It is open to the public.

No registration or RSVP is necessary.
