Michal Wright, Kent School coach, dies unexpectedly

KENT, Conn.—Michal A. Wright, 63, a longtime resident of Kent, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 at Sharon Hospital. Michal was the associate director of admissions at Kent School as well as the assistant football coach, assistant boys varsity basketball coach, varsity baseball coach and student advisor.

Born on July 4, 1961, in Aiken, SC, he was the son of the late Hayward Mosely and Victoria Wright of Warrenville, SC. On July 14, 1993, in Stamford, Conn., he married Sherry Potter, who survives at home.

Michal was a graduate of Kent School, Class of 1981, and a 2001 inaugural member of the Kent School Athletic Hall of Fame. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., and went on to teach and coach at other private schools before returning to the Kent School community in 2021.

Michael G. Hirschfeld, Kent School’s Head of School, shared this tribute: “Michal touched the lives of so many, offering his warmth, kindness and unwavering support to prospective families, students, athletes and colleagues alike. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel valued, as if they were the most important person in the room.”

Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Evan Paquette and his wife, Lara, of Katonah, N.Y., and Michal Wright of Kent; three daughters, Danielle Mirza and her husband, Abid, of Glendale Heights, Ill.; Leah Wright of North Charleston, S.C., and Savannah Wright of Kent; a brother, David Wright of Augusta, Ga,. and a sister, Susan Sapp of Warrenville, S.C. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Asher and Louisa Paquette and Zainab Mirza.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Kevin Wright.

There will be no calling hours. A committal service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Kent School Cemetery, Skiff Mountain Road in Kent. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at St. Joseph’s Chapel at Kent School, 1 Macedonia Rd.
