GAYLORDSVILLE—The Merwinsville Hotel Restoration in Gaylordsville will hold its fall potluck dinner/annual meeting Sept. 6 beginning at 6 p.m., open to both members and the public.
The event will feature appetizers, hot dogs, hamburgers/veggie burgers, and side dishes; a short meeting; and a program, “A Focus on Community (and More)” with guest speaker Deborah Rose, a New Milford native.
Rose is a lifelong writer, photographer, poet, and award-winning journalist. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Kent News Inc., publisher of The Kent Good Times Dispatch.
She has 30 years of experience in community journalism, having previously worked at The Greater New Milford Spectrum for the majority of that time.
Today, she is editor, writer and photographer for the Town of New Milford’s tourism and community site, NewMilfordNow.org.
Rose will discuss the landscape of community journalism and highlight the methods and resources available to help businesses, civic organizations, and individuals spread the word about their events and causes.
“I look forward to shining a spotlight on our community, and sharing ways the public can get more involved,” Rose said.
In addition, Rose will speak about her involvement in the arts community, including her role as New Milford Poet Laureate and as an award-winning photographer, and her work with several local nonprofits, the Ostomy Foundation, the Foundation 4 Orphans, and the Sherman Chamber Ensemble.
Those attending are asked to bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share, and the hotel will provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks. The evening will begin with appetizers and dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a short business meeting of the membership will be held at 6:45 p.m. followed by Rose’s talk at 7 p.m.
Admission is free but donations are welcomed.
