KENT—FotoDiary Kent, 3 Barn Road, will open “Etched in Time, Grand Canyon Photogravures” by photographer Scott Barnes Friday, July 12.
Early photography expanded visual boundaries by capturing scenes and perspectives previously unseen or inaccessible, a pictorial history of the men and women who forged westward. It is a journey where the spirit of exploration meets the artistry of photogravure.
In conjunction with Barnes’ photo essay, FotoDiary has assembled a collection of photography books depicting the westward movement in America from 1850. FotoDiary invites patrons to borrow any of the books on display and bring them back once they are finished with them.
Aleksandr Babarikin is the gallery’s photographer of the month. He is a 26-year-old software engineer from Belarus who now resides in New York. He describes his photography as influenced by French Impressionism.
His work encompasses a wide range of themes, combining elements of nostalgia with futuristic visions of dystopian cities. Babarikin believes that photography serves as a means of self-reflection, allowing him to express ideas, emotions and experiences without conscious thought.
