Secretary
Elyse Sadtler is a writer, educator, creator, entrepreneur, and lover of life based in the bucolic rolling hills of Northwest Connecticut.
From a young age she has been maker—sewing all manner of clothing, stuffed animals and dolls, and home decor with her 1955 Singer featherweight sewing machine (of which she is only the second owner), practicing the ancient temporary form of body art that is henna (from which she has spawned a thriving business, Henna By Elyse), and even starting her own line of personal care products.
An educator by training, Elyse holds a B.S. and M.Ed in elementary education. She enriched the lives of children for over 10 years in various educational settings, including at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, in Somers Central School District in Westchester, N.Y., and most recently at Region 12 in Connecticut, where she worked until the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020.
Upon the birth of her son in September of the same year, Elyse decided to leave education to pursue a creative career track in marketing. She is currently the marketing director for a local nonprofit organization.
Elyse’s passion for writing and journalism began during her master’s degree work, and she has written extensively for many area publications including The Lakeville Journal, Rural Intelligence, Litchfield Magazine, and Litchfield County Times.
As a pillar of democracy, Elyse believes a free and fair press plays a vital role both in the local community and at the state and national levels as well. In joining the board of Kent News Inc., Elyse seeks to ensure The Kent Dispatch remains a trusted local news source for many years to come.
