Audubon Society plans Feb. 10 hike in Sherman

SHERMAN—The Connecticut Audubon Society will hold a winter hike Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at Deer Pond Farm, 57 Wakeman Hill Rd.

The volunteer-led hike will pass through the forests, meadows and wetlands. About 620 of Deer Pond Farm’s 835 acres are upland forest; 125 acres are forested wetlands, and 59 acres are meadow. The property includes a network of 15 miles of trails.

More than 150 species of birds have been reported on the property and mammals sighted there include bobcat, several bat species, fisher and long-tailed weasels, beavers and black bear.
