37th annual Merwinsville Arts and Fiber Show starts Oct. 11

GAYLORDSVILLE—The gala preview party for the Merwinsville Hotel’s 37th annual Arts and Fine Crafts Show will be Oct. 11 and will feature a new band and many new appetizers created by caterer Hendricks Herb & Table.

Mama Train, a jazz band hailing from Hartford, will perform at the Merwinsville Hotel in Gaylordsville Friday, Oct. 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the gala preview party of the Fall Arts and Fine Crafts Show. The show continues Oct. 12-14 and 18-20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The two-weekend show launches with the gala preview party Friday, Oct. 11, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 p.m. Mama Train will perform. The band celebrates the spirit of the Jazz Age with works that ranginge from the 1920s to the 1950s inspired by early jazz and blues artists like Billie Holiday, Annette Hanshaw and Django Reinhardt 

Catered hors d’oeuvres will tempt palates with a wide variety of offerings, as well as wine and dessert. Gala attendees can view and purchase artwork before the general public.

Tickets for the gala party are $30 in advance and $35 at the door; hotel members are $20 each and can be purchased online at www.merwinsvillehotel.org. New members are always welcome.

The Arts and Fine Crafts Show has long been a tradition during the Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 12-14, and continues the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-20. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all days.

More than 80 local artists take advantage of the shows offered at the hotel to sell their work and support the ongoing restoration of the building. A portion of all sales benefit the hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Those looking for gifts of original artwork by local artists will find a variety of framed oil paintings, watercolors and photography. The fall show also features the work of artisans in glass, jewelry, woodwork, pottery, fiber arts and more.

A $3 donation per person is requested; children under 10 are free. Individuals with a current membership are admitted free and those with a “sponsor” or higher membership will receive a one-time 10 percent discount on their entire order.
