Mama Train to perform at gala preview party for Arts and Fine Crafts Show

GAYLORDSVILLE—The Merwsinville Hotel Restoration will kick off its 37th annual Arts and Fine Crafts Show with a gala preview party Oct. 11.

Attendees will have an opportunity to view and purchase artwork before the show opens to the general public Oct. 12 and continues for a two-weekend run.

The band Mama Train will provide live musical entertainment, and new appetizers created by caterer Hendricks Herb & Table will be served.

In addition, desserts and wine will be served for the party, which will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 p.m. at the 1 Brown’s Forge Road historical building that is now a museum.

Mama Train, a jazz band hailing from Hartford, will perform at the Merwinsville Hotel in Gaylordsville Friday, Oct. 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the gala preview party of the Fall Arts and Fine Crafts Show. The show continues Oct. 12-14 and 18-20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The band celebrates the spirit of the Jazz Age performing with works that ranging from the 1920s to the ’50s, inspired by early jazz and blues artists like Billie Holiday, Annette Hanshaw and Django Reinhardt.

Following the party, the show will be open Oct. 12-14, and Oct. 18-20 from10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 80 local artists take advantage of the shows offered at the hotel to sell their work and support the ongoing restoration of the building. A portion of all sales benefit the hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Those looking for gifts of original artwork by local artists will find a variety of framed oil paintings, watercolors and photography.

The fall show also features the work of artisans in glass, jewelry, woodwork, pottery, fiber arts and more.

Tickets for the gala party are $30 in advance and $35 at the door; hotel members tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at www.merwinsvillehotel.org.

New members are always welcome.

A donation of $3 per person is requested Oct. 12-14 and Oct. 18-20. Children under 10 will be admitted for free.

Individuals with a current membership are admitted free and those with a “sponsor” or higher membership will receive a one-time 10 percent discount on their entire order.
