KENT—Vintage fashion items are being sought in advance of Kent’s Summer Sidewalk Days in August.
The Kent Democratic Town Committee is holding a vintage fashion sale and is looking for gently used clothing and accessories that it will sell during the four-day event, Aug. 1 to 4. Proceeds will be used to support Democratic candidates on a regional, state and federal level.
Anyone who wants to dig deep into their closet or storage areas to find items that could be treasures to someone else is asked to contact the Kent Democrats by email, kentctdems@yahoo.com. Arrangements can be made for pickup or drop off.
The Town Committee has rented a space on the second floor of the Kent Town Center, 27 North Main Street, Studio 7B, and is sorting through donations that have already come in. This pop-up studio will be open for drop-in donations Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the following weekend, Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The committee is open to donations of any gently worn children’s, women’s and men’s clothing and/or accessories, regardless of the age.
KDTC Chair Patricia Oris said the group wanted to find a unique fundraising idea in a town with many non-profits all of whom host wonderful, creative fundraising events. The idea was inspired by her niece who shared that the fashion industry is one of the most wasteful industries and young people are turning to vintage and gently used clothing, rather than always buying new to be more environmentally conscious.
“Vintage items are also more unique and can inspire personal expressions of style,” Oris said.
She shared that many designer items have been donated: Armani, Halston, Diane von Furstenberg, Issey Miyake, Piazza Sempione, Romeo Gigli. There have been pieces donated by local celebrities and more are expected in the upcoming weeks.
There is a wide range of sizes, styles and prices available. “Something for everyone,” said Oris.
The sale will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Democrats will also have their annual bake sale on the Golden Falcon Field area with other Kent organizations.
