WINSTED – Thomas “Tommy” David Passini, 74, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, surrounded by family after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 13, 1949, in Winsted, the son of the late Anthony and Sarah (Russell) Passini, Tommy attended Kent Center School for a while as a child. Tommy enlisted at 17 years old and served in Vietnam for the United States Army. Upon his return, he spent a number of years working for Scasco, where he drove truck and served as head mechanic.

Tom left Scasco to pursue his passion for driving, and was the owner of Passini & Hart Trucking. He would spend the rest of his career traveling the country, logging more than 4 million miles and forging countless friendships.

While not on the road, Tommy cherished his time at home with his family. The family always looked forward to Tommy coming home for the holidays or during the summer for a couple of weeks to share stories.

He will be remembered for his signature cowboy boots and his love for sharing a good joke. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 296.

Tommy is survived by his siblings, Jean Fiske of Barkhamsted, Robert Passini (Pat) of Norfolk, Peggy Boscarino (Jim) of Torrington, Ruth Lallier (Mario) of Winsted and Laureen Pease (Charlie) of Sandisfield, Mass.; as well as many nieces and nephews who all loved him and some of whom referred to him as “Uncle Buck.”

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Robert Fiske and James O’Meara.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 15. Burial will be in the spring at Forest View Cemetery with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans. Visit an online guest book at montano-shea.com.
