KENT—The Sherman Chamber Ensemble’s Summer Concert Series continues with “Tangos, Folk Tunes, and Mendelssohn Magic.” The 7:30 p.m. Friday evening concert will take place at St. Andrew’s Church in Kent.

Performing are Susan Rotholz (flute), Doori Na (violin), Jane Chung (violin), David Cresswell (viola), Kal Sugatski (viola) and Eliot Bailen (cello).

Bailen, the ensemble’s artistic director, is known for his innovative and inspiring programming and this concert, featuring diverse musical genres, is no exception.

The program features Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 1 in A Major, Op. 18.  Mendelssohn was a German composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the early Romantic period. His compositions include symphonies, concertos, piano music, organ music and chamber music.

An extraordinary child prodigy, his first public performance occurred when he was nine. He composed the String Quintet No. 1 in A major, Op. 18 in 1826 when he was 17 years old. He later revised it in 1832. Mendelssohn’s extraordinary output included major works in virtually every genre.

The program also includes “Tango Arrangements” (Pablo Ziegler), and Traditional Nordic Folk Tunes (arranged by the Danish String Quartet).

Tickets to the concerts may be purchased online at www.SCEmusic.org. General Admission is $30. Children ages 16 and under are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door. For information or reservations call 860-355-5930 or email info@SCEmusic.org.
