“We’re thrilled to welcome a stellar cast for our production of The Prom,” said Artistic Director Carl Andress. “It’s a hilarious show bursting with great music, laughter and exciting dancing.”

A hit musical comedy, “The Prom,” which plays through Aug. 11, was a seven-time Tony Award-nominee and won the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical. It tells the tale of four Broadway actors whose stars have lost their luster.

So, when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue—and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny.

Written by Matthew Sklar, Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin, it will be directed by Andress and choreographed by Krystyna Resavy. Eric Thomas Johnson is music director and Judy Bowman, CSA/Judy Bowman Casting, is the resident casting director for the Playhouse.

The 2024 season continue with the perennial favorite, “Steel Magnolias,” by Robert Harling, Aug. 30-Sept. 8; and the feel-good musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” by Clark Gesner and John Gordon, with additional material by Andrew Lippa. It is based on Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip Peanuts, and runs Sept. 20- 29.

The Playhouse will present a special star-studded benefit staged reading of the Broadway comedy, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” on Sept. 13, featuring the author, Charles Busch in the title role. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Joanna Gleason (“Into the Woods”); television favorite Richard Kind (“Mad About You”) and Tony Award nominee June Gable (Estelle”on TV’s “Friends”). Click here for tickets.

The season concludes with the fourth annual Writers Playground, a 10-minute play festival of new works written by local playwrights on Oct. 4 and 5).

The Sharon Playhouse is a professional, regional, nonprofit theater producing high-quality performances with Broadway-caliber actors as well as talented local community members
