KENT—The Renter’s Rebate program is open and accepting applications. The program provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters, who are 65 years and older or totally disabled (over the age of 18, as defined by Social Security) whose incomes do not exceed certain limits.

Kent Social Services will accept documents for the Renter’s Rebate program through Sept. 30 by appointment only. Call 860-927-1586 to make an appointment.

Applicants must present a rent payment record for all of 2023 (renters should ask their landlords for a letter stating name, address and payment record for 2023) and their electric/gas/water/fuel payment record for 2023 (available from the utility companies by asking for a letter stating payment record).

They should also present their Social Security benefits statement for 2023 (SSA 1099), bank interest statement and dividends for 2023 (1099s), pension statement for 2023 (1099s) and a copy of their 2023 Federal income tax return (1040), if filed.

Renters must apply for the rebate in the town in which they currently live, even if they rented in 2023 in another Connecticut town. If they rented for less than one year, the rebate is prorated for the time that the domicile was rented.

For more information about this or any other program, call the Social Services Office at 860-927-1586.
