Membership Awareness warms Lions’ hearts in a cold month

KENT, Conn.— BRRRR! The Lions gathered this week to celebrate Membership Awareness and our various activities and committees. Among those celebrated:

The Membership Committee, which grows and sustains membership.

The Scholarship Committee, which annually grants up to four $1,500 college scholarships to Kent students.

Social Media: What’s up? These volunteers keep it fresh managing Facebook and Instagram and posting relevant photos and information.

The CAMAs: They serve up burgers and dogs at the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association events in fall and spring and SPARK (Touch -a-Trade) in October.

Town Appeal: It takes a village, and a new town appeal letter is created each year.

The Superbowl Pool: Truly a game of luck where volunteers sell squares for the Superbowl game.

Blood Drives: They are held six times a year at the Community House with the Red Cross.

Food Drives: These help stock the shelves of the Kent Food Bank, and typically happen twice a year with donations accepted at the IGA.

Holiday Luncheon for Seniors: This offers food, fun and games in December, and is co-hosted with the Fife ’n Drum.

A Penguin Plunge: The truly brave are invited to jump into the ice cold waters of Hatch Pond at Club Getaway for this fundraiser.

Dining-In-The-Dark: This is an evening of raising awareness about folks with limited eyesight; eye masks provided.

Halloween: Fun & Safety! We distribute glow-in-the-dark safety necklaces (and candy) to Tricker-or-Treaters, young and old.

Brooms: The annual sale of the Famous Lions’ brooms feeds the club’s coffers.

Memorial Day Parade: Flags, fun and ice cream is the order of the day. The Lions distribute flags along the parade route, dish up ice cream to folks at the end of the parade, and host am activity table at the Kent Land Trust’s town picnic.

Polar Bear Run: A fundraiser and awareness road race for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

The club’s next meeting will be at Bulls Bridge Inn Wednesday, March 19. We will focus on our donations for 2025.
