KENT, Conn.—The Kent Land Trust will hold a Spring Tree Whispering Walk Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at KLT’s East Kent Hamlet Nature Preserve.

Kent School science teacher Mike Benjamin and land trust staff will conduct a guided walk through the forest, identifying trees and observing the seasonal changes.
Registration is required for weather-related updates. Participants should be sure to wear sturdy, waterproof footwear, to dress warmly, and bring a water bottle.
The East Kent Hamlet Nature Preserve, formerly known as Camp Francis, is a 252-acre property in Kent and Warren, most recently operated as an overnight camp by the Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
Before that, it was a country getaway and farm occupied by the Barnum and Venter families.
The land is located in an historic part of Kent, in the “Town Character Area” known as East Kent Hamlet.
The property was the site of Kent’s first iron forge built in 1744 and operated until 1867. There were also two sawmills and a grist mill. The forge stonework remains, and adjoining mills are still visible on the property.
