KENT—The Kent Singers will present its holiday concert, “Once, As I Remember,” Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church.
The concerts are a homage to the Festival of Lessons and Carols, featuring poetry and carols both traditional and modern. They will be conducted by music director James Knox Sutterfield.
Sutterfield has conducted ensembles along the East Coast and in Italy, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
In addition to conducting The Kent Singers, he is music director of Florilegium Chamber Choir in Manhattan and associate artistic director for Inspire: a Choir for Unity, a New York City chamber group.
The Kent Singers was founded by Jon Lafleur in 1973. The group gives concerts in New Milford, Kent and Washington and the amateur group draws members from New Milford and Southbury to the south, Woodbury to the east, Sharon to the north and Pawling, N.Y., to the west.
The group performs works large and small, accompanied and a cappella, exploring the tradition of early music, Baroque, Classical, and modern music, typically giving concerts in December, in the spring and a “Summer Great Works” concert in June, which is held in New Milford.
The spring concert this year is a newly commissioned setting from composer Jonathan Woody of James Weldon Johnson’s “The Gift to Sing.” It will be presented on Sunday, March 23, at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church at 1 North Main St.
The “Summer Great Works” program Sunday, June 8, will focus on Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass and will be at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Whittlesey Ave. in New Milford at 3 p.m.
St. Andrew’s is wheelchair accessible via the ramp on North Main Street. Accessible bathrooms are available in the adjacent parish hall.
Tickets are $20 in advance at or at the door, with children younger than 12 admitted free.
