It’s time to register your dog

KENT—Dog owners are reminded that June is the month when dogs over the age of six months must be registered with the Town Clerk. The deadline is June 30 and there is a $1 per month late fee assessed for overdue licenses. Failure to license dogs is punishable by a fine in the amount of $75 per dog.

The licensing fee is $8 for each spayed or neutered dog and $19 for each unaltered dog. For newly spayed or neutered animals, owners must provide a copy of the spay/neuter certificate. If a dog’s rabies vaccination expired after it was licensed last year, the owner must also provide a current rabies certificate to obtain a new license.

License registrations/renewals begin Monday, June 3. New registrations or renewals can be done in person at the Kent Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to noon.

New registrations or renewals applications can also can also be printed out and completed before returning it with full payment to the Town Clerk, P.O. Box 843, Kent, CT, 06757, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of dog tags. Checks should be made payable to “Town of Kent.” Complete a separate form for each animal to be licensed.

Only renewals may be completed online, starting June 1; please click here. If your dog’s rabies vaccination has expired, you must provide a current rabies certificate to the Town Clerk’s office before the online renewal can be completed. This can be done by emailing the certificate to the Town Clerk’s attention.
