KENT—The Kent Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Art from the Heart benefit sale Sunday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is the third time we have had this event to benefit the fire department,” said organizer Anne McAndrew.

“We have an outstanding array of talented artists—everything from people who crochet and make jewelry to someone who makes artisan breads. It’s a wonderful event,” she said.

“In past years, the artists have had a great day and were pleased with the turnout,” she added.

The local Boy Scout Troop helps with setting up and breaking down the tables. “Everyone is so grateful,” she said.

This year the event will coincide with the resumption of the monthly breakfasts at the firehouse.

The kitchen crew and servers took the summer off and are now refreshed and ready for the monthly events, which both raise money for the fire department and foster a sense of community.

Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the firehouse located at 28 Maple St.

The menu includes pancakes, bacon, sausage and eggs.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for childr

n younger than 8, payable by cash or check.

“People can come and have breakfast and then look at Art from the Heart,” McAndrew observed.

“It’s always a crazy day, but we have also found it is a great recruitment tool,” she said. “I think a large part of that is that people come in and see what we do. The firehouse always just sits there and is a bit of a mystery, but we invite people in. It’s the heart of the community.”
