Broadband, mobile communications committee is formed

KENT—The Selectmen appointed eight members to a Broadband and Mobile Communications Working Group Feb. 28, resurrecting a committee originally established in 2021. The earlier group never met.

Under its new charge, the committee will explore options and costs for both broadband services for all Kent residents and cellular capabilities. The goal is to achieve digital equity within the rural and underserved areas of Kent.

The old committee was disbanded and a new one created. Serving on the new committee will be Rick Osborne, Selectman Lynn Mellis Worthington, Ken Cooper, Jonathan Edelman, Steve Fenner, Sarah Marshall, Kalid Wasti and Eric Roper.

A budget of $800 was established for the remainder of the fiscal year, to come out of the selectmen’s budget.

The group held its first meeting March 6.
