KENT—Residents along Skiff Mountain Road were alerted Wednesday, July 31, that their road was closed by First Selectman Marty Lindenmayer in an 4:17 p.m. email. By 8:25 p.m. the road was re-opened.
“The severe thunder storm this afternoon knocked down a tree on Skiff Mountain Road and also knocked down a power line just before 2 p.m.,” Lindenmayer wrote. “This forced the closing of Skiff Mountain Road just beyond River Road, heading toward Marvelwood School.”
However, access to the top of Skiff Mountain was still possible through Macedonia Road and Fuller Mountain Road from the eastern end.
He said that State Police and the town’s Public Works department were onsite and were waiting for Eversource repair teams to come and assess the downed wires to ensure the area was “made safe” from any power surges so the town crew could remove the tree.
Lindenmayer reported later in the evening that Road Foreman Rick Osborne working with the Public Works crew and Eversource were able to clear the downed trees and get the road re-opened. Overnight power was restored to all.
