Senatorial primary is Aug. 13; early voting starts Aug. 5

KENT—The Republican Party will hold its primary for U.S. Senator Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Blvd. Only registered Republicans can participate in voting for either Gerry Smith of Beacon Falls or Matthew M. Corey of Manchester.

On the Democratic side, incumbent Chris Murphy is the only name on the ballot.

There are several important registration and party enrollment dates. The deadline for unaffiliated voters who want to vote during the early voting period to enroll in a party is Friday, Aug. 2. They should file voter registration applications for the party holding a primary with the registrars of voters by noon on the business day before the day they want to vote.

Monday, Aug. 12 at noon is the deadline for registering in person with the Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk to vote on Aug. 13.

Absentee voting is underway and will continue through Aug. 12. Early voting will take place Monday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 6, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 7, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 8, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m.to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 10, 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11, 10 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Town Hall offices (except for the Registrar of Voters and Town Clerk) will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 13.
